Biography
Carleton R. “Tex” Hoy is a native of South Dakota, born and raised in Vermillion. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1950 and his Juris Doctor in 1956 at the University of South Dakota. Tex was a member of the University of South Dakota Board of Law Review from 1955-1956, Law Clerk to U.S. District Judge Mickelson, district of South Dakota from 1956-1957 and Special Assistant to the U.S. Attorney from 1973-1974.
Tex has over 60 years of experience as a trial lawyer and his accomplishments are extensive. He has tried cases in state and federal courts and with the department of labor. He has extensive appeal experience before the South Dakota Supreme Court and the Federal Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the State Bar of South Dakota (President, 1979-1980), Second Circuit Bar Association, South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association (President, 1968-1969), American College of Trial Lawyers, Fellow of the International Society of Barristers (President, 1988-1989) and Fellow of International Academy of Trial Lawyers.
